Goose!

Ok. So I haven't posted anything in a long long time. This is because my film is taking up ALL my time right now. I did however go to the Royal Winter Fair and draw some animals, just like every year. So here, is a goose and a cow.

Speed Painting and Layout

Heres a speed paitning I did for life drawing a couple weeks ago.

And here is my layout. I think I've finally settled on a painting style for the backgrounds. I had a huge dilema with wanting some level of style in the layouts without going the UPA "wonky" route, because that wouldn't fit with my time period. Blah.

Carmen

I love Carmen Miranda. She has unique features and a huge personality which makes her fun to charicature. So heres a painting of her, 100% digital, that I did for lifedrawing class. Its different from the way I usually do digital painting, which is to scan a rough drawing, make it transparent, paint underneath it and then remove the sketch as I refine the painting. This one I just opened up photoshop and started throwing colour down, and I kind of like the result.

Its the Monster Ho-Down

So there's this girl named Sam. Shes my bestest friend evers. The "Jay" to my "Silent Bob" you could say. And lately she has had a thing for monsters. So I did these for her today, for her to hang in her room because she is in the process of gutting it and I thought it would be nice for her to have something new for her walls. I'm so thoughtful.

Also, yesterday I got my schedule for September and picked my electives. I've got Wednesdays and Fridays free, which is awesome. In fact, I've got no classes from 11:00am Thursday until 11:00am Monday. FANTASTIC. 3.5 day weekends will be awesome for getting huge amounts of animation done. And my gen-ed courses are "Dictatorship in the 20th century" and "Archetypes in Science Nature and Design" or something like that. I can't remember the exact titles. Regardless, I want school to start right now.

So here's the deal. I love Stephen King movies. I hate most horror movies, but I love Stephen King's. The reason for this is that most horror movies, especially modern horror, rely wholly on traumatizing the audience. They show you lots of graphic detail of horrible things, things that in my opinion no rational human being should ever find watchable, let alone entertaining. Now, the deal is you're shown these things and it sticks in your head for a few hours, or a few days, or a few weeks afterwards but 9 times out of 10 its the imagery that scares you. Stephen King's movies aren't like this (for the most part. Cujo is an exception) and they aren't filled with prissy half clothed 17 year olds waiting to be chopped up. The reason I'm babbling about this is because in the past week since I've been out of my internship we've watched The Tommyknockers, Storm of the Century, Rose Red, Carrie, and The Shining. The Shining isn't my favorite adaptation of one of his novels, but as we were watching it I drew some stuff. So here's Shelley Duvall and the kid who played Danny whose name I don't know.

Also, I've pretty much finalized my main character for my film. Here she is, looking stiffer and far more sober than she will in the film.

On a side note GO WATCH THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG TRAILER! DO IT NOW! It isnt as impressive as I want it to be, BUT STILL!!

Grandparenty Pictures

I started this last night and I just finished it. These are my paternal grandparents. We have a family reunion thingamajig every summer and I'm giving this to them as a kind of gift type thing. I've been doing characatures for a pretty long time, both "professionally" and just as favors, and I think these are two of the best I've ever done, in terms of getting a good likeness and character. It also helps that I think my grandfather has worn that outfit nearly every day for the past 25 years.

In other news, my internship ended on friday. It was pretty awesome and I got a few good portfolio pieces out of it, and learned more than I even care to mention. And now, I have all of August to work on my 4th year film. And hopefully get my website back in working order, as its been down for almost a year now.

Right now however, I'm going to go through all my film work, and scan and organize it all, and then we're going to see Stepbrothers.

'Cause there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Ok. So its summer. As in school is over and I've started my internsip. Having no homework is awesome, however I can't shake off this feeling of guilt from not doing any for so long, even though I have none.
To solve this problem I've been drawing more than usual and working on my film for next year. Thus far I've got the story and the characters sorted out, and I've just started thumbnailing the storyboard. I might post more of the design stuff later, but for now, here's some other things!

Video games are another plus to it being summer. So heres some video game art. I love Zelda and I love Pokemon. So deal with it.

That All Around "Good Guy"

Want to know how cool I am?

Thats how cool I am.
I just spent the afternoon watching George of the Jungle. The original series, not the new one in which all the charm has been washed away by colours that are too bright and characters that are too hip and jokes that are non-offensive and not funny. I'm having problems with all these old cartoons being updated for new younger audiences, and not just because its never as good. More so, because when I was growing up most of my favorite cartoons were made decades before I was born. Its a shame is all I'm saying.

Stay tuned for some Roger Ramjet, because he is the coolest. Cooler even than George of the Jungle, though in a fight I'm not sure who would win.

FiddleSticks

So these are for my 4th year film. I want 3rd year to be done real bad.

My website hasn't been up for many moons, and I think I'm going to work on that today, assuming I get a comfortable amount of animation done. Looking through my crappy old drawings from highschool that are still on my computer has made me want to revamp my crappy old website.

An Old Painting

I drew this last year, and painted it last night for my portfolio. In other news, I'm sick a lot and its getting really annoying.
